Thanks to everyone who entered in this giveaway! Congratulations to Linda, the winner!
I'm a huge America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Illustrated fan! I love the shows and own several of their cookbooks. AND I love my slow cooker. We have been doing a lot of slow cooker dinners for Sunday dinners, it's nice because we find Sundays to be our day to get a lot of things done. Putting something in a slow cooker in the morning allows us get more done on Sundays.
When I was offered the chance to review Slow Cooker Revolution before it was released, I was so excited. I have already tried a couple of recipes, including Red Wine-Braised Short Ribs. It was amazing! It's definitely in my list of favorites. This book is definitely not your run of the mill throw it all together and forget it slow cooker recipe books. Some of the recipes recommend browning of the meat or the use of a microwave before putting everything into the slow cooker. This lends to a layering of flavors that you would not get if you just threw it all into the slow cooker. But having said that, not all recipes in this cookbook requires you to take out a skillet or use the microwave before getting the slow cooker out.
America's Test Kitchen was hard at work for a year trying 1,200 recipes and came up with over 200 foolproof recipes in Slow Cooker Revolution including desserts.
Buy It: On Amazon.com for $16.17 (which is 40% off of the cover price).

Slow-Cooked Carolina Beef Brisket is one of my all time favorite recipes…the sauce is to die for over egg noodles or mashed potatoes. I usually use any type of roast that’s on sale(fav is a rump roast) and any chunky salsa(sry Pace) that I have.
Everything else I keep the same.( I did run out of molasses once and added honey…it was still very good, but the molasses gives it something special) Here is the link…

One of my former neighbors in South Florida invited my husband and I over for dinner one night. She had made a slow cooker meal and put it over wide egg noodles. I asked her for the recipe – couldn’t be any simpler – and I was amazed at what she told me. It was a large chuck steak (browned in a pan) with a jar of commercial spaghetti sauce!! You place vegetables of choice (potatoes, carrots, onions, celery, bell peppers, mushrooms, etc.) in the bottom of the cooker. Brown the meat (and onions, if you prefer) in a pan with a little oil and then place the meat on top of the vegetables. Add a large jar of spaghetti sauce, add lid and turn it on. I usually put it on low and cook it all day. The meat juices blend with the sauce and you’d never guess it was spaghetti sauce when it’s done.

Favorite slow cooker recipe: barbequed spare ribs!
Helen Mowry says
Hi Julie! My favorite slow cooker recipe is “South of the Border Steak and Beans”. http://triedandtruecookbook.blogspot.com/2008/07/south-of-border-steak-beans.html
My mods to the recipe are:
1. Trim fat from meat.
2. After slow cooking is finished and peppers and beans have been added and cooked, remove meat and cool slightly. Shred the meat.
3. Stir chopped cilantro to taste into bean mixture.
4. Spoon brown rice into soup bowls, arrange meat on top of rice, then spoon bean mixture over meat.
5. Sprinkle with Queso Fresco or plain feta cheese, additional chopped cilantro, and serve with lime wedges.
Typing this makes me want to run to the grocery store and get this going right now. For me, it’s the cilantro and lime that call my name. This also smells fabulous while cooking. Thanks for the opportunity to win a prize in your giveaway!
