Fig & Blue Cheese Salad and a Giveaway!

I feel like we’re friends and I can always be honest with you…so here goes, I just tried fresh figs for the first time last week. One thing I love about having a food blog is that I’m always getting to (as well as forcing myself) to try new things. I love finding new products and foods that I want to try and love when I discover new things. Before this week, my fig repertoire was fig newtons. Color me embarrassed. This all changed once the folks at From the Farm offered to send me these amazing figs from The Fig Lady in California.

I saw this literally a couple days after the From the Farm folks said that my fresh figs should be arriving soon. I almost died. So what did I do when they first arrived? I washed them, put most of them in the fridge and then proceeded to chow down on a few fresh figs with blue cheese. I was sad I didn’t have gorgonzola though. But still, amazing…and life changing.

I seriously am beginning to wonder…what the heck is wrong with me and where have fresh figs been all my life? My husband won’t try them, what’s wrong with him? I’m not sure why but in these cases I don’t complain, I don’t whine and I don’t say a word because my thought process is…more for me!!

Since the fresh figs and blue cheese went so well together, I thought I’d make a real simple salad with them. It’s basically some salad lettuce with my figs and blue cheese. I feel like saying would you like some lettuce with your figs & blue cheese? Trust me, just make sure you have a bite of cheese with each piece of fresh fig.

This salad is a great with a steak or on its own, double or triple the recipe to have it as a meal or to serve more people. The light & simple dressing lets the fresh figs and blue cheese be the star.

I’ve actually never tried fresh figs, but I think I will like them :) . As for what looks awesome on the website, the flavored cheeses and spread pack for sure. I always put different spreads on my rice cakes and I loooove cheese!

My son moved to Merced a couple of years ago, and while visiting him I discovered figs and the Fig Lady. I’m so hooked!! I pay big bucks to buy them and get them shipped to Arkansas! Haven’t tried any of the recipes yet since I can’t quit eating them straight from the box!! He has since moved, so I would LOVE to get more of her wonderful figs. The Kadota figs are my favorite, but the black missions were really good this year.

The 4 lb. fresh fig combo of Kadota Figs (nature’s candy) and Black Mission Figs sounds fabulous! Our next door neighbor, Mrs. Saverance in Cheraw, SC, used to share figs from their tree. They were absolutely delicious!
