Zojirushi Rice Cooker Giveaway (Closed)

Am I allowed to say this isn’t your mama’s rice cooker? It’s certainly not my Mom’s rice cooker. Growing up, from the time I can remember we always had a rice cooker and the brand was Zojirushi. It was dependable and easy to use but it did not have the bells and whistles and features of the one pictured above.

I recall my Mom calling home before leaving work every night and asking one of us to make a pot of rice. Our question back would always be, how many cups? We used our Zojirushi rice cooker almost every day. In our Vietnamese-American household, Jasmine rice was a staple.

So I was really excited when I had the opportunity to review AND giveaway a Zojirushi rice cooker. I say this isn’t your mama’s rice cooker because it has tons of options and you can make way more than just Jasmine rice. You can make sweet sticky rice, sushi rice, basmati rice, risotto and much, much more.

This rice cooker boasts a dome shaped bowl which means no more eyeballing the water level for me. I use the easy to read guide depending on what type of rice I’m making.

Features of the Micom 5.5 Rice Cooker & Warmer include:

  • Multiple settings for different types of rice
  • A warmer setting to keep your rice and foods warm
  • Slow cook setting make soups and other recipes
  • A sound alert (song) to let you know the rice is done
  • The disc in the lid is removable, making it easy to clean (if you have ever owned a rice cooker before, I know you’ll appreciate this!)
  • A domed bowl that allows for even heating and has markings for easy measuring

How to make Jasmine rice in a rice cooker:

  1. Using the measuring cup that came with the rice cooker, I measure out the rice. Usually about 3 cups of rice.
  2. Rinse the rice with warm water and drain several times. The water will become less cloudy with each rinse.
  3. Add enough warm water to the rice bowl at the appropriate level. I like to add it at a little bit below the level. For Jasmine rice, under the mixed section for 3 cups if using 3 cups of uncooked rice.
  4. Place the bowl inside the rice cooker and close the lid.
  5. Using the menu button, select the Mixed mode. And then press the Start button.

Perfectly cooked rice…when you hit the Start button, it plays Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and when cooking is complete, it plays it again! Such a nice little touch the Zojirushi company has added to what I call the Cadillac of rice cookers.

I was giddy when the box arrived and still am giddy about it. Is it okay to get get giddy over a kitchen appliance? No one that knows me should be surprised. By the way, please don’t tell anyone that I hugged my new rice cooker several times since I have received it. I’m so excited to share with one of the readers of the little kitchen…the same rice cooker!

I have owned many rice cookers before, and I have always reverted back to ‘pot on stove’ (a nonstick pot, of course). It would be nice to have a wonderful rice cooker such as this so I could evenly cook rice & easily clean it!

I’d be giddy too if I got that delivered to me. I’ve never had a rice cooker before, but like you said I’ve heard this the Cadillac of rice cookers and have been secretly wanting one for years! I would make rice for dinner every night if I had this, lol.

We eat a lot of rice, so this would be a great addition. I also like how you can make other things (like steam vegetables and cake) in it.

I’ve never owned a rice cooker, but I need one. I either make it in one of those microwave ready pouches or turn it into a big clump of rice on the stove top.

Would love this rice cooker – I’m all about easy meals these days, so thinking of one pot meals I could make in this “cadillac” of rice cookers!

  16. Cathy W — September 22, 2011 @ 7:58 am

I’d cook rice in it, love different types of rice. I have owned 1 or 2 rice cookers in the past but very low end types!

  17. Jessen — September 22, 2011 @ 7:59 am

OMG…I so need that! I am a great cook, with everything but rice!!! I usually cook with brown rice, and it seems to take forever. I always need to add more and more water, definitely more liquid to rice than the packaged directions say. This would help me a great deal!! It would be a life(cooking) savour!!

  18. Melody — September 22, 2011 @ 8:09 am

Rice cookers are my life!! I would definitely starve to death without one…

I burn rice. I am a great cook but rice and I are not cooperative friends. I own a small steamer right now that is dying and THIS looks like the best! My son adores rice..literally makes it at least once every two days. This would be awesome! It would be even better if YOU could deliver it to me….

I’ve been wanting to get a rice cooker for a while! My family loves rice, and I just haven’t perfected the art of cooking rice. It would be lovely to have this rice cooker and make perfect rice every nigh for dinner!

  34. amanda @ fake ginger — September 22, 2011 @ 9:09 am

I need a rice cooker because I suck at cooking rice. I swear, I think the reason we don’t eat (or like) rice much is because I don’t know how to cook it.

I would love to win a rice cooker, I have never owned one before, but I eat a lot of rice and make it all the time. I am terrible at timing things so this would make sure my rice comes out perfect every time. I really want to make sticky rice if I win this!
